Golden Canyon State Park.
Ice is solid here. The ponds are decent fisihing. All stocked rainbows saw alot of people out on sunday and the last stocking for the year was Oct. 5th according to thier web page. Even if the fishing is slow this is a wonderful place to visit. Here I think I spend more time enjoying the area then focusing on fishing, but then again I think alot of the fishing I do is to get outdoors and enjoy the nature around me. A day spent fishing is a day worth living.
Clear Creek
I was able to get out to clear creek on thursday. After trying up above golden where the trout fishing has been good, and finding it iced over. I traveled back to wheat ridge and was able to find some open water. After a while of fishing I was shocked to find a whole with large mouth bass in it I was able to hook into 2 both pretty small but a blast to catch especially on an ultra lite with a trout lure. Remember to catch and release!!

Boulder Creek
Water where it was running was crystal clear. There was alot of ice so it made it a bit tough to fish here so after I short try I decided to just enjoy some nature. Make sure before you fish this creek to read the regs on it. Artificial fly lure only. There is also some areas where the New Zealand snail has been found so those sections have been closed off. Can't wait to try this creek again when there is a bit less ice.

Prospect Park
Looking for a place to bring the whole family and get in some good fishing? Prospect Park is amazing with Clear Creek running right down the middle and a few ponds loaded with Panfish, Bass, and I was told catfish. I was able to hook into a few Bluegills and a couple nice Bass. I didn't try for any of the catfish. This is a good place if you have kids in tow to throw on a bobber and jig and let the little ones at it. The scenery is not bad either. Watch out for fast moving bikes as the trail here is very popular. This spot is great for a quick fishing trip or spending some hours with the whole family.

Clear Creek
Nothing in the world like grabbing a fishing pole and heading out for a little lunch time tangle with a fish or two. I have hesitated about writing about clear creek as I have not been able to hook into anything the times I went before. Today however I was able to find the elusive brown hiding between a shopping cart and a rock. I love the fight in the little creek fish. The hit is always fast and they run for the hills once the hook is set. This is a nice creek if not for the fishing it is a wonderful place to spend your lunch time. I was fishing today with the panther martin yellow, red dots with a gold blade. Remember there are here don't get discouraged by not hooking one up the first time you go. A day spent fishing is a day worth living.

Nederland Co
Not really urban but had a nice trip to nederland today. Didn't see much action as I didn't bring any lake fishing gear thought there would be a little more stream/creek fishing. Most of the creek was iced over the lake was not too productive with spinners. Nice place to visit but make sure you have some lake gear. There is only shore fishing as you cannot get into the water since it feeds Boulder. The creeks looked to be good with some nice holes little less ice and I would have given it a go.

Union Square
I can't think of anything better then a small pond within walking distance that is loaded with fish. I went to union square park to see if there were any fish. Was I ever surprised after a quick survey I threw on a lead head with a small white curly tailed grub and then the fun started. I was able to catch bluegill, crappie, sunfish, and small bass. I switched to a larger grub and was able to pull out some slightly larger large mouth bass. I tried for a couple carp that were trolling the shallows, but I didn't really have the bait to entice them. Within an hour I had caught and released at least 15 fish. I did receive alot of strange looks from passerby's most people don't think to look to the small ponds to catch fish. I didn't catch any to write home about but the fun in catching fish was worth it. If you are ever bored and have some time to spare I would recommend breaking out that spinningg rod throwing on a grub and chasing pan fish here. Remember to catch and release as most of these small ponds are not stocked and have very limited fish. A day spent fishing is a day worth living.

Bear Creek from Federal to Sheridan
What a beautiful stretch of water. I found many spots that I thought would be loaded with fish, however I was not able to entice any fish to chase my Panther Martin lure. I started with a gold spinner with orange feathers and moved to a yellow with red dots. Both had red hooks usually great performers for me. I know that farther upstream at Bear Creek park there is fish not sure if it was time of day or just my lure selection but nothing for me.
Why Urban fishing?
Like most people out there I work for a living. Not having much time most days I have to get my fishing in when I can. I have found some of the best fishing spots to be those closest to home. I recently moved to the Denver area of Colorado from Utah. At first I struggled to find spots to fish asking around most people told me I had to drive many miles to get to the good fishing spots. I have decided to try as I did in Utah many of the small ponds and creeks right around town. I will post as many spots as I can (of course I have to keep a few to myself). I will try to give as much information as I can about the spots I fish and how I did. Hope you enjoy and remember a day spent fishing is a day worth living.
